Economic Development of a Country: Role of Banks

Banks play an important role in the country's economic development. Money deposited in banks can be used for the purchase of raw materials or other purposes. It is also safe to keep the money in banks. Through the help of banks, businesses can get the new capital or capital formation. They can also arrange for the sale of shares or debentures to raise capital. Some banks provide long-term loans to manufacturers. A large part of the trade is carried out on credit. Through banks, customers can obtain references and guarantees based on which they can supply goods on credit. Another important component of trade is the grant of loans. From 1945 to 2017, economic development has produced significant contradictions. There have been astonishing rises in per capita income, while many developing nations have been able to improve their education and health indicators. The world's development process is facing significant challenges, both in terms of its sustainability and its impact on th...

Problems of a Large Family

There are a lot of problems in a large family. A large family comprises many members. So every member may not get a personal room in the house. There is always noise in the house. So the members who are engaged in studying may not get a congenial atmosphere in the house. Housewives have to do a lot of household chores & find no leisure time. Most of the large families face poverty. The junior members of such family are at beck & call of the seniors. The parents encounter problems to maintain such families.

Female Education

Once Napoleon said, give me an educated mother & I will give you an educated nation. This statement prove the importance of female education. In Bangladesh there are still some contradictory views about female education. Many illiterate parents think that educating their daughters is just wasting time & money, for they are soon married off and are of little help. But with all these beliefs people are coming forward to educate their daughters. It has taken a positive turn. Gender discrimination is the prime barrier on the way of female education. Illiteracy, fanaticism etc. are the reasons behind the barrier. Female education is of prime importance for the coordinated development of a country. Education enlightens our mind, develops our abilities & gives us the knowledge of health, sanitation & population control. In fact, neglecting the women folk no nation can develop. So, in order to achieve progress & prosperity, we must more emphasis on female education. But if ...

Truthfulness

Truthfulness is a quality of a human being. It’s a great virtue. The habit of speaking the truth is called truthfulness. Everybody respects a truthful person. A truthful individual is like a star in our society. Nowadays it is a rare quality. Truthfulness depends on firmness, sincerity & honesty of one’s character. Lying is the opposite of truthfulness. Everyone hates a liar. Truthfulness may not make us rich but it brings peace of mind. On the other hand, a liar may succeed for a short time by his dishonesty. She has no peace of mind. She can’t speak anything boldly. A liar is always timid. A Truthful man is bold & speak fearlessly. She is not afraid of anyone. She can speak against corruption & injustice strongly. If a lie is told she feels uneasy. Her mind becomes restless. She tries to reveal the truth. A truthful person becomes happy only when truth is established in the society. Everybody should try to acquire the quality of truthfulness.

Various Aspects of Brain Drain

Lured by the charms of developed countries bright boys & girls leave their poor native lands & go abroad & after finishing their higher studies some of them often settle there. Often export doctors, scientists & engineers go abroad & work there for fat salaries & better service conditions. This migration of skilled & experienced people from one country to another is called brain drain. Owing to this brain drain the home country becomes loser as it is deprived of the services of its skilled people. But if they work there for a limited period & send money to their native land then the country is benefited by getting foreign exchange. And if the intelligent & skilled people leave the country for good then the poor native land becomes poorer. But disregarding the lure of high salary & better living conditions some people stay home & work for the betterment of the motherland. They are the real patriots who can make a town or a country worth livin...

The Merits and Demerits of Television

Television is an audio visual device. It’s one of the most wonderful inventions of modern science. J.L. Beyard invented it. It’s based on concurrent photography & sound recording. It functions in various ways as a source of entertainment. By means of a television set we can hear all kinds of news & views about domestic & international affairs. At the same time we can see the people involved with them. It is a means of education as well as recreation. Television has demolished the barrier of distance & made us feel that we live & move as the members of the international community. But the satellite TV has an adverse effect on society. It has a tremendous power of corrupting people by telecasting indecent programs. Thus, while watching a television program we must beware of its corruptive influence. So, we should watch decent programs in order to get maximum benefit from it.

Unfair Means in the Examination

I don’t support unfair means in the examination. Adopting unfair means in the examination is an evil practice & it degrades the moral values of the students. There are many reasons for adopting unfair means. The number of efficient teachers is not sufficient to teach a large number of students. Besides, students don’t prepare the lessons, they waste time in gossiping & keep away from classrooms. Many students plunge in politics mongering. They want only to get a certificate or a degree by hook or by crook. Recently the authorities have taken some measures to prevent unfair means. The whole system of examination has changed. Now students are to go to other institutions for their centers. Teachers & students are given threat to be punished severely for taking to unfair means. Now, students seem to be motivated to learn. Teachers are free from anxiety & the examinations are being held in a sound atmosphere free from unfair means. I think these preventive measures...

The Role of Educated Girls in Our Society

A girl who has the mental & moral training about the life & the world in called the educated girl. An educated girl usually becomes married after the completion of her institutional study. By this time she becomes groomed & mature. In most cases an educated girl gets married with an educated man. Usually their families are small & peaceful. An educated girl herself can earn for her family. In the event of any crisis she can maintain herself & her children. She is aware of health care, hygiene & sanitation. So there is the high probability of survival for herself & her children. An educated girl knows the nutritional values of different foods. They could ensure nutrition by making a diet plan according to the age & weight of the family members. If there are educated mothers in all families, there will be an educated, peaceful, prosperous nation.

The Effects of War

War & peace are contradictory to each other. War is a curse, it destroy the normal atmosphere of the world & brings unbeatable pain, suffering & misery in human life. It destroys on only human life but also animals & makes a country economically paralyzed. We know the miserable condition of Hiroshima & Nagasaki during the Second World War. In the war, a huge number of people died & many were bodily crippled, yet their next generation is not released from that dangerous attack. The war of the Middle East shows the fearful disorder & displeasure in the world. The destructive & detrimental effects of the war remind us of the slogan from the global peace. The example of the United States of America is appropriate here. The USA is the super power in all respects in the world. That is why she is torturing the powerless countries of the world on this plea or that & applying her wicked policy. The UN should be impartial & should take effective steps aga...

Terrorism in Different Countries

Terrorism is a burning issue nowadays & the effects of terrorism are very fearful & dangerous. It’s born of the conflict of & greed for power, racial clash & the use of supremacy. Now command clash is very conspicuous. After the attack on the American World Trade Center & Pentagon, a group Al-Quaida is treated as a terrorist group all over the world. Several kinds of terrorism are occurring in the world. These are plane hijacking, acid throwing, the use of suicidal bomb, abduction etc. The terrorists make their network internationally so that they can make violence at any time & any place of the world. Their aim is to make bloody clashes. It creates a heinous impression in the eyes of the common folk. The terrorists are destroying communal harmony, equality, fraternity & brotherhood. So, we want peace in the world & not terrorism.

The Introduction of Grading System

The grading system has of late been introduced in the SSC & HSC Examinations in place of the age old marking system. According to the old system the candidates were declared to have passed or failed in the examination & the successful students were placed in the first, second & third division according to the percentage of marks obtained by them. And they were declared to have secured the first, second, third place & son on according to the total marks. The unsuccessful candidates were required to take the whole exam again even if they failed in one subject only. But in the grading system the candidates are placed in A+, A, A-, B, C, D & F grade in each subject & there is no first, second or first place. Candidates failed in one or more subjects have to take the exam in these subjects only in the next year. The new system thus releases the students from the labor of taking exams in all subjects if they fail in one subject only as it was in the old system. And t...

Transportation System in Bangladesh

There was a time when Bangladesh had a very poor transportation system. But it is developing day by day. Highways, roads, big bridges are being constructed now. Transports of various kinds are available today. Among them travelling by train is the safest & most comfortable. The transports which are mostly available can be named as train, plane, launch, bus, car, tempo, coaster etc. It must be admitted that one must face hazards in travelling. The first hazard one faces is concerned with time schedule. Secondly, whether the transports are fit to move or not. Thirdly, rush of passengers. Fourthly, damage of roads by floods, traffic jam & impact of bad, clumsy & inclement weather in connection with plane & launch journey. The transport authority should frequently check whether the transports which ply to & from different directions, are fit to move or not. In addition, roads & highways should be developed.

The Contributions of the Rural Women in Nation Building

The rural women have to perform numerous tasks every day. Cooking foods, washing clothes, entertaining guests, looking after children, governing household are the routine work of a village women. Every day they have to perform their daily work. From down to night they have to work hard for their family. They spend hour before smoking, cooking stoves. It’s very harmful for their health. Landless & poor women are the most affected. Women’s participation in development activities is not encouraged. They can’t play any role in decision making. We have failed to involve women in our development work. But economic development without women’s participation is not possible. Their contribution to the welfare of the family is hardly recognized. It’s necessary to evaluate women’s work properly.

The Gifts of Science

Systematic & formulated knowledge is called science. Science is the study of the nature & behavior of the physical & natural world & society through observation & experiment. It has made various inventions for the comfort & development of human knowledge. The inventions of various medicines, means of transport & communication, machineries are the various gifts of science. The various inventions of science have made our lives easy & comfortable. We are indebted to science for all the comforts of life, easy & speedy transport & communication & long healthy life. Science has also made destructive weapons like atom bombs & hydrogen bombs which can kill millions of people within a short time. Thus the gifts of science can be the worst curse. But science is not responsible for this. It’s the wicked brain of man which is responsible for this curse. Science proves to be a blessing if & when it is used properly. And it is a curse when it is m...

Cultural Tradition of Bangladesh

Culture means the way of living, eating, talking & learning. It includes people’s values & beliefs as well. It has a broader & wider meaning. It comprises music, literature, drama & other aspects of fine arts too. Bangladesh has a rich & distinct culture & tradition. This culture & tradition is rooted in its soil. We have a rich heritage of music. We have different types of songs. A new type of classical music was introduced in the eighteenth century. The background of folk songs is the rural setting of life, nature, human joys & sorrows. The new era in music was created by Amir, the great musician. With the union of Persian & indigenous music, he created a new type of music.

Changing Cultural Patterns in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi culture is gradually being replaced by the alien culture. At present satellite channels are playing the vital role in this regard. Bangladesh is rich in traditional folk songs. The major songs of our soil are Sari & various folk songs. But these songs are losing their appeal. Bangladesh is a land of music. Her folk songs are an integral part of her culture. They reflect the life & mind of her people more faithfully than anything else. Our people are also fond of modern Bengali songs. But our songs are being invaded by the western music, band music & pop song. We should guard against their harmful effect & accept their good qualities only. The changes of the entertaining sources should not be encouraged. To preserve our culture is our sacred duty. In other words, culture reflects the inner life of a nation.

The State of the Street Children

The condition of the street children is deplorable. It has become a grim issue in Bangladesh. They have no family environment. These children have no hearth & home. They have to live under the open sky. They roam around in the city in search of livelihood. They somehow manage a room to sleep somewhere at night. But all too often, they pass their nights in the street under the open sky. They earn their livelihood by working hard. They have to do many hazardous jobs. They are low paid & are deprived of education & health care & nutrition. They are always exploited & repressed easily. Most of the street children have no family identity. They are born & brought up in the streets. Most of them are forsaken by their parents. Some of them have rather father or mother. They are deprived of parental love, affection & care. They are deprived of the happiness & security of family life. They suffer from the lack of education & health care, safe water, proper fo...

The Effective Method of Learning a Language

There is no single right method of learning a language. The main ways are reading, listening, writing, speaking, memorizing, learning grammar & so on. They vary from person to person. Students often memorizing English topics to pass the exams. Some love to listen to English on CNN & BBC programs. Some read English newspapers & novels & the rest like to speak in English with their friends. But in my opinion, learners should work simultaneously with all the four skills of language i.e. reading, writing, listening & speaking. It is better to practice English without too much attention on being correct all the time. I always try to improve my English by using all the skills at a time. It works well. I fell myself fairly well in English & am happy with my overall progress. I know I should not lose heart if & when I get stuck or commit mistakes.

Banyan Tree

A banyan tree is a huge tree spread over a large area around it. The most interesting things with banyan trees are that stems come out to ground as an outgrowth of branches & support the extending branches round the tree. It’s a popular abode of birds. For its shade, people usually tired passers-by & cowboys take rest sitting under this tree. Its leaves are a common food for cattle. It’s a center for social events too. Local meetings & discussions are often held under banyan trees. People also sit there just to gossip, or play chess or cards. A banyan tree has a strong religious attachment with the people of his region. The banyan tree is the inseparable part of our history of independence. They are the great historians. We must take care of the banyan trees of our country.

Common Foods of Bangladesh

In Bangladesh the common foods are rice, fish & pulses. People also eat, wheat, potatoes & other seasonal vegetables, beef, mutton, chicken, eggs, bread & other bakery products & all sorts of local fruits. Among fishes shrimps & hilsa are exported abroad &, they are therefore expensive & rare. All these, we call common foods, because these are available in Bangladesh & people like them very much as well. We can find them around us. Most of our food items are nutritious. All fruits are also rich in food value. We like all these Bangladeshi foods because we are habituated to eat them. It’s a sense of nationalism, that prompts us to take indigenous items of food & fruits.
