Harmful
contamination of anything is called pollution. Water pollution means
contamination of surface & drinking water that make the water harmful to
use. Men pollute water by discarding into it domestic & industrial wastes,
human waste & filth, poisonous chemical & corrosives. Mills &
factories throw their chemical wastes into rivers & canals & pollute
water. Farmers use pesticides & chemical fertilizers which are washed out
by the rain & flood & pollute the water. Leaking of oil from water
vehicles, dead bodies & rotten debris of animal & plants, germs of
diseases & insanitary latrines are other factors that pollute water.
Through proper management of wasters we can minimize water pollution. People
should also be made aware of the ways & means to keep water pure &
clean & not polluted.
